Description
A very scarce cup from Cunard. The blue and white pattern is known as the Ormond pattern. The face of the cup has the company markings with the banner announcing "The Cunard Steamship Company, Ltd" under the rampant lion holding with world globe and covered by the crown of England. The registered design number for the pattern is not on the bottom of this cup but is known to be 121313, which means the earliest use of the pattern was1890. There are marks impress in the bottom of the cup but I could not decipher them; Mintons and Cauldon produced this pattern for Cunard. The cup is in excellent condition. The design is bright and not worn, the rim is smooth, and there are no cracks in the body or handle. There is a flake off the foot of the cup, it is about 3/8 inch long - see photo #7. The cup is 3 inch diameter by 3 inch tall. All in all, this is outstanding example of the china from one of the historic ocean transportation companies.
