Description
This instrument was acquired from the builder in 2013. It was built in a group of 4, and these were the last CB instruments Steven made.It is signed and dated in the interior in pencil It is not numbered but in the same group as #73.
From this group, one was sold immediately, another was exhibited at the Western North Carolina State Fair, where it received a blue ribbon. The builder retains that one. I acquired the other two from this group. Please see separate listing for that instrument.
Steven's CB violins are the same dimensions as a conventional full sized 4/4 violin, so can be played as normal. The cigar boxes are antiques and made of cedar. They resonate quite nicely and produce a satisfying warm tone. On most of Steven's CB violins the bridges are comparatively low, as this reduces the downward pressure on the box top, which is obviously not arched.
The "Strut" design of the neck is Steven's own design. Coupled with a wedge shaped tail block, this conveys most of the compression pressure of the strings from the tail pin to the tuning head, allowing the box to to vibrate freely.
This instrument features Curly Maple strut and Quarter Sawn Oak fingerboard. Fittings are Rosewood. It includes 4 fine tuners.
This violin is offered without case or bow. It will fit nicely in a rigid foam 4/4 sized case usually available for around .
I am reducing my holdings. Please see my other instruments on offer,
