The reverse of the coin depicts a bearded Zeus sitting on a throne with an eagle perched on his right hand and a lightning bolt in his left hand. The inscription ZEUS also appears in the design . The obverse portrays the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2017 year-date.
To capture the depth and detail of the design, the coin is struck in high relief to a rimless format. Each coin has been individually 'antiqued' to give it a unique finish conveying the surface of an ancient artifact. As a result of this treatment the appearance of each coin has a slight variation.
