Description
Alpaca fleece is the natural fiber harvested from an alpaca. It is light or heavy in weight, depending on how it is spun. It is a soft, durable, luxurious and silky natural fiber. While similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. The more common crimpy variety is Huacaya, and that is what this fleece appears to be.This particular fiber comes from an entire fleece or blanket. Fibers are an unusual length - about 10 inches long. Color is a warm reddish brown or copper and has a bit of crimp or fine wave to it. The entire fleece weighed 17 pounds. It has a lovely soft feel.
Raw fiber is unwashed and does have a small amount of tiny twigs, straw and dirt in the fiber. Alpaca fiber is easier to spin before washing it.
Fleece has been separated into chunks of various weights and ziplock bagged or zipper bagged (think: sheet set bags). If you order several ounces please note that each ounce will not be bagged individually, the quantity you order will all be placed in one bag before shipping.
I weigh using an analog scale - you will receive a bit heavier than actual weight because of this. This is a premium fleece because of color and length.
Please note quantity discounts.
